    Deckard’s American Tavern

Deckard’s American Tavern is a neighborhood establishment with a New England twist. The concept specializes in high-quality beer, simple craft cuisine and relaxing camaraderie. We have 24 specialty draughts, 75 beers in the bottle, and 75 hand-picked wines. We will also be offering a rotation of 12 artisan cocktails that feature smaller batch, boutique spirits.

The New England influence is the use of a very unique, custom built two-quart steam kettle system. The kettles are used to cook great American seafood classics such as clam chowder, fisherman’s stew, and oyster stew. The kettles are heated by a boiler that circulates pressurized steam through the kettle, cooking your selection very quickly, yet gently.

The food menu is a vision of Chef Matthew Deckard’s ability to use classic ingredients and twist them in a newer, more modern way. This fresh take on traditional dishes gives Deckard’s a “vintage tavern” appeal with a menu that is always innovative. Chef Deckard’s goal is to make you feel at home. He designed the restaurant with an open kitchen so you feel as if you are in his kitchen at home. So sit down, relax and enjoy.

I have not had the pleasure of eating a burger at all of the restaurants listed, but I have at many. My vote is for H&F – they have the best burger in Atlanta! I don’t see them participating in the contest though. Too bad.

Eli, thanks for stopping by and for joining the discussion – we love it!

This is our first year of Battle of the Burgers and there a few restaurants we’d love to add next year to our great roster of 18!

Of course, we believe this year is gonna be AWESOME and we hope to see you there! – David

    Eli-
I totally agree and that is what I told them when they called me to tell me that they did not want to participate.

We went to all the “notable” burger places. The restaurants participating believe in their burger and understand that it is not just about burgers- but supporting a great cause- Embraced.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Will there be any vegetarian options? Veggie burgers?

    Reply

David Eckoff September 30, 2010 at 4:33 am

@Shannon, yes! Each restaurant has the option to submit a vegetarian option, too! So there will be veggie options as well. We can’t promise that every restaurant will have a veggie option- but we certainly appreciate your attendance!

Why isn’t Richard Blais (Flip Burger) involved in this?
But I am excited about Farmburger. This should be really good.

@Andrea, thanks for stopping by and for your comment. I don’t know why FLIP isn’t participating this year (I’m volunteering with social media and online marketing; Laura who founded the event did the great job signing the 17 restaurants!!). You’d really have to ask Richard about that! If FLIP and others participate next year, I’ll be happy to see them join the cause! And of course, Battle of the Burgers is not just about great burgers, it’s about benefiting Embraced, too! Glad you’re excited about the event – see you Saturday! – DE
